Directional drill locator-in-training responsibilities for underground construction projects. Performs crew tasks at the direction of the construction superintendent, foreman or primary operator as required. Actively contributes to efficiency efforts in crew execution. Seeks out training opportunities to continually add to, and improve, their skillset and experience – including opportunities to practice advanced locating skills or operate equipment in supervised settings. Maintains equipment and materials used on projects. Follows safety, quality, and consistency best-practices and procedures as part of everyday responsibilities. Advocates for fellow crew members.
Responsibilities
Performs directional drill locating duties as required for project. Non-locating work with other crew members as needed. Maintains awareness of material usage; notifies supervisor of changes affecting project plans or records. Demonstrates quality and consistency in all aspects of work. Seeks guidance as required. Contributes to efficiency of whole crew operation at each job site. Monitors status of equipment, materials and vehicles to keep projects moving forward. Complies with DOT-regulations. Follows safety initiatives. Advises crew or construction foreman of issues identified. Suggests safety training topics based on actual or industry-observed practices. Seeks training on new skills. In turn, trains fellow crew members on various operational skills.
Qualifications
Requires 1 year of utility construction experience, or equivalent. Basic proficiency in directional drill locating operation; basic proficiency in groundsman functions. Requires understanding of fiber, copper, duct and industry-related materials. Requires understanding of cable placement and splicing / testing functions. Process and detail oriented. Verbal and written communication skills. Self-starter. Hand-held technology skills. Valid driver’s license. A Commercial Driver’s License is a plus but not required. Will train for CDL if/as necessary. Additional compensation for obtaining CDL.
