Utility Groundsman functions as a crew member for underground construction projects. Actively contributes to efficiency efforts in crew execution. Seeks out training opportunities to continually add to, and improve their skillset and experience – including opportunities to practice locating skills or operate equipment in supervised settings. Maintains equipment and materials used on projects. Follows safety, quality, and consistency best practices and procedures as part of everyday responsibilities. Advocates for fellow crew members.

Responsibilities

Off-equipment work with other crew members as required by the project – including but not limited to digging, backfilling, spot-locate existing utilities/facilities and setting vaults, opportunities in daily job duties to learn/enhance skills on a variety of equipment and processes – including mini-excavators, hydro-vac trailers, bore drills, and locating. Maintains awareness of material usage; informs teams of changes affecting project plans or records. Demonstrates quality and consistency in all aspects of work, seeking guidance as required. Contributes to the efficiency of entire crew operation at each job site – including monitoring the status of equipment, materials, and vehicles to keep projects moving forward. Complies with DOT regulations. Follows and actively participates in safety initiatives. Seeks training in new skills and trains fellow crew members in various operational skills.

Qualifications

Construction-industry knowledge is a plus but not required. Process and detail-oriented. Safety-conscious. Self-starter. Valid Driver’s License. A Commercial Driver’s License is a plus but not required. Will train for CDL if/as necessary. Additional compensation for obtaining CDL.
